The Parker Hale Model 85 is a British sniper rifle designed in response to requirements after the Falklands War. It is chambered for .308 cartridge and is effective up to a range of 900 meters. It uses a 10-round box magazine as its feed system and weights 12 pounds with its aiming optics.
The rifle is manufactured by Parker Hale Ltd.—a firearms company located in Petersfield, Hampshire. In 2000, the company was acquired by John Rothery Wholesale Ltd and production was stopped shortly. The license for the rifle has been acquired by Gibbs Rifle Co. However, production has not yet been resumed.
The Parker Hale Model 85 doesn’t have any innovative or cutting-edge features. However, it is well designed and does its job well. Overall, the Parker Hale Model 85 is a top-of-the-class sniper rifle. Its design is based on a conventional hunting rifle with some features added. A number of aiming optics can be fitted with the Model 85. In addition, the rifle is also designed to be adjusted to suit the firer.
