The Beretta Model 1938/42 was an Italian submachine gun that was widely used by the Italian Army during the Second World War. It was a carbine style submachine gun with wooden furniture and was manufactured on a large scale during the war.The Model 1938/42 was based on the earlier 1938/A submachine gun which was designed by Tullio Marengoni in 1935. The 1938/A was itself based on the Beretta Modello 18 and the Vilar Perosa of the First World War. The Model 38/42 was fed by a 34-round magazine that fed from below. It was chambered for Cartuccia Modello 38 or 9x19mm Parabellum ammunition and was capable of firing 600 rounds per minute. The SMG had a muzzle velocity of 429 meters per second.During the war the Model 1938/42 was mass manufactured in large numbers. Its popularity was mainly because of its excellent performance. During the war, some modified versions were also introduced. One such modified version was designed with a dust shroud around the bolt for use in the dusty conditions of North Africa. The Beretta Model 38/42 is an example of good submachine gun design. It struck a balance between quality and quantity and thus was a formidable weapon in the field. The Beretta RS 202-M2 is a pump-action shotgun manufactured and distributed by the Italian firearm manufacturing company—Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta. The shotgun feeds from a six-round tube magazine and features a conventional design. The RS 202-M2 is one of most dependable pump-action shotguns. It takes advantage of Beretta’s experience and expertise acquired in manufacturing more than a million automatic shotguns. The Beretta RS 202P features a foldable metal stock and a perforated shroud around the barrel. However, internally its design is very conventional and doesn’t differ much from other shotguns in its class. The RS 202 can also use 8-round magazines designed by Valtro—another Italian firearms manufacturer. The shotgun can also be mounted with aiming optics. The top of the receiver has rails for mounting aiming scopes. In addition, the shotgun’s pistol grip makes wielding the weapon very comfortable during firing. The main advantage with the Beretta RS 202 is that it can fire a range of ammunition types. In addition, it also has a variable choke and a shot expander that allows the firer to alter the spread of buckshot fired by the shotgun. The Barrett 82A1 Light Fifty is a .50 calibre anti-material sniper rifle. It is recoil-operated and fires in semi-automatic mode. It was designed by Ronnie Barrett and is manufactured by Barrett Firearms Manufacturing. It is used by many countries across the globe. Barrett Firearms Manufacturing was started by Ronnie Barrett to manufacture rifles capable of firing the high-power 12.7x99mm NATO ammunition. He designed the first rifle in 1982 and thus the rifle is designated as M82. Several improvements were made subsequently to the initial design. The version is designated as M82 A1. The first country to adopt the M82 A1 was Sweden. Subsequently, the United States Army adopted the rifle during the First Gulf War. Today, more than 30 countries such as Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Italy, Norway and many others use the M82 rifle. The massive round fired by the M82 has very high stopping power. It is commonly used against material targets like helicopters, light vehicles and aircraft. It is also used to destroy enemy targets of strategic value such as radar and radio communication systems. The M82A1 is very heavy at 14.7 Kgs and is also very long. When compared to the M16 rifle, the M82 is four times as much heavy and one and half times longer. It uses an 11-round box magazine as its feed system and comes with an integral bipod. When compared with other rifles, the Barrett M82A1 is very costly. It is not designed for the ordinary soldier. In the hands of an experienced sniper, the M82A1 can be very effective in paralysing enemy operations and communication systems from beyond the reach of the enemy. The Beretta 93R is a machine pistol designed by the Italian company Beretta. The design of the 93R is based on the earlier Beretta 92. The 93R was designed in the 1970s and was intended for use by police and military personnel. The Beretta 93R offers extra firepower and is highly concealable. The gun can fire three-round bursts with each pull of the trigger. The designers of the pistol deliberately restricted the rate of fire to three-rounds as it becomes more difficult to control the weapon at continuous firing. The 93R is designed to fire the 9x19mm Parabellum round and is capable of firing 1100 rounds per minute at 3 round bursts. It is fed using a 20 round box magazine. The 93 has been discontinued and is no longer being produced by Beretta. The Beretta 92 is a semiautomatic pistol manufactured by Beretta of Italy. The pistol was designed in the year 1972 and continues to be manufactured till date. It was designed by Carlo Beretta, Vittorio Valle and Giuseppe Mazzetti. The design of the Beretta 92 is based on earlier designs such as the M1922 and M1951. In incorporates various features from these models such as the open slide mechanism, the locking block barrel and the grip design. The Beretta 92 is a conventional design. However, it is a fine weapon with its high versatility and reliability. The pistol can be fired both in double-action mode and also by manually cocking it. The pistol is chambered for the 9mm Parabellum round and the magazine is capable of holding 15 rounds.A version of the Beretta 92 was adopted by the United States Military after extensive field testing. The pistol is designated as the 92SB and was later replaced by another variant called the 92F. Despite the Beretta’s reliability, some problems were encountered during the initial years of its introduction. The 92’s slide was prone to cracking and in some extreme cases, would come loose and fly off into the firer’s face. However, in the later versions these problems were fully rectified. Subsequently, the US Military replaced the 92 with other handgun models. The Beretta 92 is often employed by law enforcement agencies. Many private gun owners also prefer to use it. A variant called the 93R has also been introduced. This pistol is capable of firing three-round bursts and has been used in limited numbers by the Italian law enforcement agencies. However, it has not achieved widespread popularity and use continues to be on a limited scale. |
